Wine, Education and Rockstars!

This week's blog enry focuses on three important activities that you need to know about:

Wine Tasting Event nears...

As you know by now, the Brain Tumor Center’s Wine Tasting Event is less than a week away.  The event takes place at the CARE/Crawley Building on the UC Academic Health Center campus on Thursday, April 29, from 6-8 p.m.

Thank you to those board members who have committed to attend.  Many have also donated wines and are bringing along friends as well.  All of your work is much appreciated.

Rich Seal, event chair, and his committee have done a wonderful job preparing the evening.  Not only will there be a wide variety of vendors showcasing wines from across the globe, we also have more than 30 items secured for the silent auction.  There will also be wonderful food catered by Jeff Thomas Catering and music by a quartet of the College Conservatory of Music (CCM).  At 6:45 p.m., we will have a brief program and presentation, so please make sure you arrive in time!

Rich reports that over 100 people are registered so far, and more are registering daily.  We would like as many people there as possible, so please make every effort to spread the word!

If you have not yet registered to attend, please do so right away.  Cost is $50/person.  Register at 513-558-6903 or https://regonline.com/btc_wine_tasting.

Next board meeting date changed to Saturday, June 26!

Please note that we have changed the date of the June Community Advisory Board meeting to Saturday, June 26, so that board members will have an opportunity to attend at least part of the patient symposium.  The meeting will take place at 7:30 a.m. in room 423, the board room, of the Tangeman Center on UC’s campus.  Lynette Ranasinghe of the UC Brain Tumor Center will be sending all the specifics of the new meeting shortly, including the agenda, location, parking, etc.

After the meeting, we will all adjourn to the patient symposium, just down the hall.  This is a great opportunity for all of us to see the Brain Tumor Center team in action.  Committee chair Eric Becker and his team have put together a wonderful program.  Some featured presentations and highlights of the event include:

  • Brain Tumors:  Where do they come from?
  • Brain Tumor Surgery and Radiation Therapy Overviews
  • Healthy Diets for People Living with Brain Tumors
  • Exercise and Tai Chi
  • Frontiers for the Future of Brain Tumor Treatment

Breakout sessions for patients with pituitary adenoma, acoustic neuroma, meningioma, glioma, and metastatic brain tumors.

You can find more information on the program at www.UCBrainTumorCenter.com, or call Christa McAlpin, PR/Events Specialist, at 513-569-5251.

Watch for the rockstars!

The UC Brain Tumor Center’s advertising program ramps up again next week and will continue locally and in Dayton through the end of June. Tom Rosenberger reports that the campaign features print ads in the Cincinnati Enquirer and the Cincinnati Business Courier, as well as in the Dayton Daily News and various Cox publications.  NPR sponsorship is also underway on WVXU and WGUC.  We also have banner ads on Cincinnati.com and wcpo.com, as well as Google advertising.  A new feature for this campaign is a television commercial featuring brain tumor survivor Sandy Hempel.  In the commercial, Sandy calls her brain tumor doctors her “rockstars.”  It is a great spot. Sandy will also be speaking at our Wine Tasting Event next week.  Watch for the commercial on WCPO TV during newscasts, daytime, and primetime programming. If you have any questions, contact Tom at 513-569-5260.

I hope to see you next week!

Sincerely,

Kathy Beechem,  Chair, Community Advisory Board
